2020 Honda City Received Close to 9,000 Bookings; 2,400 Units Delivered
November 19, 2020 Andrew Cheng

The all-new 2020 Honda City was launched here in Malaysia just last month, and the Japanese carmaker just revealed that close to 9,000 bookings have been made for the B-segment sedan. On top of that, over 2,400 units have been delivered to customers as well.

Of the 9,000 bookings, the V variant of the City – it sits right below the range-topping RS e:HEV model – is the most popular option, making up 54% of the total bookings. Speaking of which, it’s worth noting that the 9,000 bookings are solely from the three variants (V, E, and S) launched. After all, the top-of-the-line RS model will only be available here sometime in January 2021.

Anyway, powering the V, E, and S variants of the new City is a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine that outputs 121PS and 145Nm of torque. It is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with drive sent to the front wheels. As for the RS e:HEV model, it features a Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) powertrain that delivers 108PS and 253Nm of torque.

Standard safety equipment across the range of the 2020 City include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ISOFIX anchor points, and rear seatbelt reminder. As for airbag count, only the RS and V variants get six airbags; the E and S models get four airbags instead.

Of course, one of the contributing factors for the City’s popularity has to be the 100% sales tax exemption for locally assembled (CKD) cars until the end of 2020. The full price list of the sedan – including with and without tax exemption – can be found below.
