Huawei Pay Now in Malaysia, But Only for ICBC UnionPay Cardholders
November 17, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Huawei just announced the arrival of Huawei Pay in Malaysia. This service is brought here locally thanks to the Chinese company’s partnership with UnionPay International as well as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), making it easier for Huawei users to perform cashless payments.

However, according to Huawei, only ICBC UnionPay cardholders will be able to use Huawei Pay; credit or debit cards issued by other banks are not supported by the service just yet. After all, Huawei Pay takes advantage of UnionPay QuickPass to perform the cashless transaction.

Anyway, quite a number of Huawei smartphones support Huawei Pay, though it’s mainly made up of its flagship series. These include the Mate lineup – ranging from the Mate 9 to the latest Mate 40 – the P10 to P40 smartphones, as well as the Nova 7 5G.

As for where you can use Huawei Pay, the company gave quite an exhaustive list. These include McDonald’s, KFC, Family Mart, 99 Speedmart, Parkson, Village Grocer, Adidas, Nike, and even Sports Direct. Basically, anywhere that supports UnionPay QuickPass.

The Huawei Pay service is now live in Malaysia. To celebrate the launch of the payment method here, ICBC UnionPay cardholders who register their cards with Huawei Pay can get up to 50% cashback for every transaction above RM20. On top of that, the top monthly spenders also stand a chance to win a Huawei P40, Huawei FreeBuds 3, Huawei Watch GT 2E, or a number of other prizes.
