Dbrand is one of the most well-known names when it comes to skins for a wide range of tech products, including the PlayStation 5. Well, if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on the PS5, the company is actually urging customers to not skin the next generation console – bizarre, isn’t it?
In fact, Dbrand will refund everyone who pre-ordered any form of PS5 skin from the company. The logic behind its decision is simple: the skin wouldn’t look great. Dbrand even took a video from Dave Lee to show its point.
As you can see in the video, the inner panel of the PS5 will still be white; Dbrand’s “simple to apply” skin for the console would look very similar to that. Of course, the company considered to make a “full coverage” version of the skin, but it would be too difficult for the average consumer to apply. “The truth here is that we have no interest in selling a product that will generate a dozen customer complaints for every purchase,” the company said.
Even if the skin was applied perfectly to the PS5, Dbrand mentioned that “high-contrast white seams” would still be visible. While some consumers may not mind this, it’s enough of a shortcoming for Dbrand to cancel selling skins for the PS5, unfortunately enough.
If you’re thinking of slapping on a skin to the PlayStation 5 in hopes of getting a black version of console, you may want to reconsider. After all, even a renowned skin company like Dbrand – which stands to earn quite a bit of profit from such a product – says so.
