UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) just opened bookings for the new 2020 Toyota Yaris facelift. Not only does the updated B-segment hatchback sport a slightly different front end design, the new Yaris also comes with Toyota Safety Sense now, which adds a number of active safety features.
According to UMWT, Safety Sense for the Yaris includes two major features: Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA). The former, as its name suggests, warns the driver and automatically applies the brakes when there’s a risk of frontal collision. As for LDA, it alerts the driver when the car is (unintentionally) getting out of the lane.
Aside from that, the front end of the Yaris is slightly reworked as well. LED headlights are now standard across the range, and the lower grille is much wider now. While these changes don’t radically change the looks of the Yaris, they do give the hatchback a cleaner, more aggressive styling, in our opinion.
Beyond these changes, the updated Yaris should be powered by the same Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5L engine that outputs 107PS and 140Nm of torque; drive is sent to the front wheels by a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Besides that, the infotainment system now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too.
At the moment, UMWT only released estimated pricing of the 2020 Toyota Yaris. The base J variant is said to cost RM71,688, while the higher-end E and G models go for RM80,591 and RM85,587 respectively. Curiously, these price tags are with SST included; it’ll be interesting to see if the Yaris will be able to enjoy the 100% sales tax exemption offered until the end of the year.
