Aside from the Xperia 5 II, Sony Malaysia also revealed the local pricing of its other flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 II. Given that it is a bigger smartphone with a much sharper 4K OLED screen, the Xperia 1 II is naturally costlier than the more compact RM4,099 Xperia 5 II.
Just like the Xperia 5 II, only one variant of the Xperia 1 II is offered for the Malaysian market. As reported by Amanz, the flagship retails at RM4,999, and it comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. That’s not a lot of storage – especially for a phone at this price point – but at least there’s a microSD card slot that can accommodate cards up to 1TB.
Even though the Xperia 1 II doesn’t feature the Xperia 5 II’s fast 120Hz screen (it only has a conventional 60Hz panel), the former does have a much sharper 6.5-inch 3840 x 1644 OLED panel with HDR support. Of course, as is the case with Sony’s recent smartphones, the screen sports a tall 21:9 aspect ratio as well.
Other specifications of the Xperia 1 II include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, a triple camera system (12MP f/1.7 primary + 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle + 12MP f/2.4 telephoto), an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP65/68 rating, and a 4,000mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia 1 II is expected to arrive here in Malaysia sometime next month in November. Without a doubt it’s a costly flagship smartphone for RM4,999, though you are paying for the impressive 4K OLED screen.
