Tesla just unveiled the “Plaid” version of the Model S, the fastest model of the electric sedan yet. Thanks to its three electric motors, the Plaid has a combined horsepower of over 1,100, allowing the car to sprint from zero to 96km/h in under two seconds. In comparison, the Ludicrous variant of the Model S can “only” do the same sprint in 2.3 seconds.
Besides that, the Plaid Model S also has a top speed of 200mph, which is about 322km/h. Needless to say, it’s a very fast car with equally fast acceleration. That’s not the only impressive thing about the Plaid; according to Tesla, this model has a range of up to a whopping 520 miles (around 835km).
To show just how fast the Plaid Model S is, Tesla put it through the Laguna Sega raceway, where it managed to complete a lap in only 1 minute and 30.3 seconds. Compared to the original run of the prototype Plaid – seen in the video above – it’s a six-second improvement.
Of course, all of these do not come cheap: the Plaid Model S retails from $139,990 in the US, which comes up to about RM580,000. Deliveries for the car, on the other hand, will only take place in late 2021 next year; quite some time away.
The Tesla Model S Plaid is without a doubt a very impressive electric car. It’ll be interesting to see if the company will offer the Plaid powertrain in its other models.
