Apple is unveiling quite a number of new products today, and one of them is the Apple Watch Series 6. While the design of the smartwatch remains largely the same, it does pack some new sensors, enabling it to measure blood oxygen levels and more accurately track your sleep.
While the ability to measure blood oxygen levels isn’t exactly new in the smartwatch market – the Series 6 can get a reading in about 15 seconds – Apple does leverage on this feature by partnering with health networks for studies. Take the current COVID-19 pandemic: the Cupertino company can test if blood oxygen levels can be used to detect infected individuals.
Besides that, the Series 6 comes with Apple’s latest (you guessed it) S6 processor. This chip promises up to 20% better performance, and it’s based on Apple’s very own A13 chip. It’s a good performance upgrade over its predecessor, which was powered by the S5 processor – essentially a rebranded S4 chip.
Another big feature introduced with the Series 6 is more colour option. You can now get the new smartwatch in a range of colours, including blue, gold, graphite, and even Product (RED). That’s right, the company’s signature bright red hue is now available on the Apple Watch with the Series 6.
The Apple Watch SE
The Apple Watch Series 6 ranges from RM1,749 to a steep RM3,499 for the gold stainless steel case with leather loop. If you want something more affordable, you can opt for the equally new Apple Watch SE from only RM1,199. The SE doesn’t have the fancy new sensors of the Series 6, but it does sport many of the Series 5’s features.
At the moment, it remains to be seen exactly when these two smartwatches will be landing in malaysia. Rest assured, we’ll keep a close eye on their local availability.
