PlayStation is holding another event for the PS5 next week on 17 September. It’s said to be a showcase for the next-generation console, and while it’s not specifically mentioned, the retail price and availability of the PS5 could very well be revealed on that day.
According to PlayStation, the digital showcase next week for the PS5 is to give us “one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch.” it’s said to last for about 40 minutes, and it will “feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners,” the company added.
This announcement comes right after a slew of leaks surfaced on the internet surrounding Microsoft’s own next-generation consoles. The retail price and availability Xbox Series X and Series S were later confirmed by Microsoft itself, so there’s a good chance PlayStation will follow suit with the two PS5 systems.
Unlike Microsoft’s strategy, both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition feature the same level of performance. The only difference between the two consoles is the lack of an optical disc drive in the Digital Edition, which brings down the cost (and retail price) of the system. It’ll be interesting to see just how much more affordable it would be over the standard PS5.
The PlayStation 5 showcase will be taking place next week on 17 September at 4AM Malaysian time. Hopefully, we’ll finally get details on the pricing and availability of the next-generation console then.
