The Hyundai Kona, the Korean company’s B-segment SUV, is finally landing here in Malaysia. Set to be launched here sometime in the fourth quarter of 2020, the Kona is also open for booking now. In fact, those who placed a booking will also get a “special introductory package.”
The local availability of the Kona was revealed by Hyundai Malaysia itself on its Facebook page. According to the post, customers can book the SUV for only RM288. They can also enjoy the aforementioned special introductory package, though specific details of the package have not been revealed yet.
According to Paul Tan, the Kona will be offered in three different variants: 2.0 Standard, 2.0 Mid, and the range-topping 1.6 T-GDI High. The former two is believed to be powered by a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine that can output 149PS and 179Nm of torque, and it will be paired to a six-speed automatic torque converter.
As for the top-of-the-line 1.6 T-GDI High Kona, it’s naturally the most exciting model. Under the hood of this variant is a more powerful 1.6L T-GDI turbo engine that puts out 177PS and 265Nm of torque. It’s also paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which should be more responsive than the six-speed automatic gearbox of the Standard and Mid models.
The Hyundai Kona is set to be available in Malaysia sometime in Q4 2020, so it could be launched here as early as October. You can also register your interest for the Kona on Hyundai’s website, and the B-segment SUV is expected to be priced from RM11X,XXX locally.
