The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 series has just been launched in Malaysia, and it’s touted by the Chinese company to be the first smartphones with a 108MP penta camera system. It’s a sophisticated camera configuration, and to top it off, it’s said to be just as good as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro‘s camera performance.

At least, that’s the rating DxOMark gave the Mi Note 10 Pro. With a total score of 121, this phone sits at the top of the ranking with the Mate 30 Pro. According to the site, the Mi Note 10 Pro offers fast autofocus, great zoom performance, and good detail preservation for the wide angle sensor. The last one is impressive, given that most wide angle shooters aren’t particularly good.

Without a doubt the highlight of the Mi Note 10 series’ penta camera system is the 108MP f/1.69 main shooter with a 7P – or 8P for the Pro model – lens. It uses pixel binning to further improve the camera performance, so it effectively outputs 27MP images; you won’t have to worry about not having enough storage space to store all your images.

Aside from that, both the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro also have a 12MP f/2.0 telephoto lens (50mm) and an 8MP f/2.0 longer telephoto sensor (94mm). This allows the two phones to do 10x hybrid zoom or 50x digital zoom, which is really quite impressive. The other two sensors in the penta camera system are a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle sensor and a f/2.4 macro shooter.

Given its sophisticated camera system, you’d think the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro are flagship smartphones. Unfortunately, that’s not the case: these two devices are only powered by an upper mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset.

In fact, both phones are essentially the same device, though the Pro variant does come with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The standard model, on the other hand, has 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. Oh, there’s no support for expandable storage either.

Other specifications of the Mi Note 10 series include a 6.47-inch 1080p dual curved AMOLED notched screen, a very generous 5,260mAh battery with 30W fast charging (a 30W charger is provided in the box), a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 series will be available for purchase in Malaysia from 7 December onwards. The standard Mi Note 10 retails at RM2,099, while the Mi Note 10 Pro goes for RM2,499. Early birds will get some nice freebies too: those who place their order between 7 to 15 December will get a RM100 PWP discount on a Mi store product. For the Pro model, you’ll also get a 12-month screen replacement warranty.
