Xiaomi just introduced a new smartphone in China with an impressive camera system. It is the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro, which features a penta-camera system (that’s five lenses) with a 108MP primary sensor. The kicker? It’s said to be on par with the camera system of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
This is based on DxOMark’s rating of the Mi CC9 Pro’s camera system, which gave it a total score of 121 – the same score the Mate 30 Pro received. According to the full analysis, the CC9 Pro offers great zoom performance, fast autofocus, and good detail preservation for the wide angle sensor.
Thanks to the combination of a 12MP f/2.0 telephoto lens (50mm) and an 8MP f/2.0 longer telephoto sensor (94mm), the Mi CC9 Pro can do either 10x hybrid zoom or 50x digital zoom; that’s pretty darn impressive. DxOMark says that the 12MP shooter provides 2x optical zoom, while the 8MP camera does around 4x optical zoom.
As mentioned, the primary sensor in the penta-camera configuration is an 108MP f/1.69 shooter with a 7P (or 8P for the Premium Edition) lens. As it uses pixel binning for improved camera performance, this sensor outputs 27MP images instead. The other two cameras, on the other hand, are a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle sensor and a f/2.4 macro shooter.
Beyond its camera system, other specifications of the Mi CC9 Pro put it comfortably in the upper mid-range segment. For one, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset paired with up to 8GB of RAM. This is no flagship smartphone, even if it has an impressive camera system.
Like most Xiaomi smartphones in this segment, the Mi CC9 Pro features a 6.47-inch 2340 x 1080 dual curved AMOLED (notched) display along with an optical in-screen fingerprint sensor underneath it. Given the 1080p resolution and the CC9 Pro’s very generous 5,260mAh battery, this phone should be able to offer excellent battery life.
Other specifications of the Mi CC9 Pro include a 32MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, and an infrared sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro is currently only available in the Chinese market. Three variants of the phone are offered: the 128GB + 6GB and 256GB + 8GB models are priced at 2,799 Chinese yuan (about RM1,650) and 3,099 yuan (approximately RM1,830) respectively, while the 256GB + 8GB Premium Edition with an 8P lens for the 102MP camera goes for 3,499 yuan (around RM2,065).
