Apple’s latest smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 5, is finally coming to Malaysia on 1 November. On top of that, we now know the full pricing details of the smartwatch too. The most affordable model goes for RM1,749, but if you’re feeling…fancy, you can customise it to cost a whopping RM4,849.
That’s right, Apple Watch Studio, which allows you to customise your Apple Watch, is available in Malaysia. You can change the case material, size, and even the band of the Apple Watch Series 5. Anyway, the variant that costs a cool RM4,849 is the 44mm Stainless Steel model (cellular support included) paired with a Space Black Link Bracelet.
Oh, right: Apple is finally bringing in the cellular version of smartwatch with the Apple Watch Series 5 on our shores. Compared to the standard GPS-only model, cellular supports costs extra RM450.
Compared to the Series 4, the Apple Watch Series 5 isn’t remarkably different. The biggest addition is the always-on display, a feature that many users have been asking for. Thanks to the use of a low-temperature polysilicone and oxide (LTPO) display, a low-power display driver, and a more efficient power management, the Series 5 can still offer the same 18-hour battery life of its predecessor.
Aside from that, the Series 5 now comes with a built-in compass too. This gives you details on heading, incline, latitude, longitude, and current elevation. We don’t imagine it’s a feature many folks will use, but it will certainly come in handy for those with an active lifestyle.
Other specifications of the Series 5 are similar to the Series 4. The new Series 5 still has the same design, case sizes (40mm or 44mm), as well as the ability to provide EKG readings, though it’s not a feature enabled in all countries. If you’re wondering, no, the Apple Watch’s EKG sensor is not activated in Malaysia.
There are also a number of options for the Series 5 that are not offered in our local market. For starters, only the Stainless Steel and Aluminium models of the smartwatch are sold here; the higher-end Titanium and Ceramic finishes are nowhere to be found.
Thankfully, the band options are more elaborate. You can select from a wide variety of Sport Bands, Sport Loops, Leather straps, and of course, a number of Stainless Steel options too.
The Apple Watch Series 5 will be available in Malaysia from 1 November onwards. Although you can’t purchase the new smartwatch just set, you can start customising the Series 5 with Apple Watch Studio on Apple’s local website.
