Vivo Nex 3 with 5G Connectivity & Waterfall Display Now in Malaysia for RM3,899
October 17, 2019 Andrew Cheng

Vivo has just launched its first 5G smartphone for the Malaysian market, the Vivo Nex 3. It’s a rather interesting move to launch the 5G variant of the device here, given that 5G network is not fully established yet on our shores. Regardless, there are a number of other features that make the Nex 3 an attractive flagship smartphone.

Not only does it come with 5G connectivity, the Nex 3 also features an unconventional display dubbed Waterfall FullView, which curves at a steep angle at either sides of the phone. In a way, the Waterfall display is similar to the Huawei Mate 30 Pro‘s ultra curved screen, though the Nex 3 is a much bigger smartphone.

After all, it has a large 6.89-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display. Thanks to the use of a 16MP f/2.1 pop-up selfie camera, the Nex 3 sports a sleek all-screen design too. According to Vivo, this gives the phone an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 99.6%. Of course, the small bezels definitely play a part as well.

Because the curvature of the Nex 3’s display is so extreme, Vivo decided to ditch physical buttons altogether. Instead, there’s a static power “button” on the right side of the phone, which uses haptic feedback to simulate a button press. To adjust the volume, I only need to press on the top and bottom areas of the power button.

When it comes to performance, the Nex 3 is powered by Qualcomm’s best chipset yet, the Snapdragon 855+. Compared to the standard Snapdragon 855, this new SoC has its CPU and GPU overclocked, which promises up to 15% better performance. Paired with 8GB of RAM, performance should not be an issue with the Nex 3.

Other specifications of the Nex 3 include 256GB of fast UFS 3.0 storage, a triple camera system (64MP f/1.8 primary + 13MP f/2.2 wide angle + 13MP f/2.5 telephoto), an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and a generous 4,500mAh battery with support for Vivo’s 44W Super FlashCharge technology.

The Vivo Nex 3 is now available for purchase in Malaysia, and only the Glowing Night colourway is brought into our market. On top of that, it’s only offered in a single variant, which comes with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. If you’re keen to get this 5G smartphone, it will set you back RM3,899.

It’s a steep asking price, to be sure, but hey, the Nex 3 has 5G connectivity – it’s not a feature typically offered by other phone makers in Malaysia. At least, not at the moment anyway.
