Aside from launching the Nokia 2720 Flip and Nokia 110 feature phones in Malaysia, HMD Global also introduced the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 smartphones. Retailing from RM899, these two devices are reasonably good mid-range offerings, especially for those who value good software experience.
Like most Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 are Android One devices, so they run on a very stock version of Android with very little to no bloatware. On top of that, they will also receive the latest Android updates – as well as security patches – very quickly; two things HMD highlighted at the launch event of these two phones.
As its name suggests, the Nokia 7.2 is the higher-end smartphone of the two. It features a 6.3-inch 1080p IPS notched display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 3,500mAh battery. Pretty standard list of hardware for a mid-range smartphone.
In the camera department, the Nokia 7.2 has a triple camera system made up of a 48MP primary shooter, an 8MP wide angle lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. As for the front-facing shooter, it’s a 20MP camera. Also, it’s worth noting that all of these camera sensors are using Zeiss optics.
The Nokia 6.2
If you want something more affordable, there’s the Nokia 6.2. Instead of the 7.2’s Snapdragon 660 chipset, this model is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC instead. While it’s not quite as fast, it should be capable enough to offer a good level of performance for everyday use.
Other specifications of the Nokia 6.2 include a 6.3-inch 1080p IPS display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3,500mAh battery. For photography, it also has a triple camera system like the 7.2, but it’s a simpler 16MP primary + 8MP wide angle + 5MP depth camera configuration.
The Nokia 6.2 will be available in Malaysia sometime in early October next month for RM899. Only the Ceramic Black model is offered here, and we were told it will be sold exclusively on Nokia’s official Lazada store. The higher-end Nokia 7.2, on the other hand, retails for RM1,299, and it can be purchased right now at all authorised Nokia retailers.
Interestingly, if you get the Nokia 7.2 from these retailers, you will receive a complimentary backpack along with a 16GB microSD card. Of course, this offer is only valid while stocks last. Three colour options of the Nokia 7.2 are offered in Malaysia: Charcoal, Cyan Green, and Ice.
Only the Charcoal model is available right now, while the latter two colour options can be purchased in the near future.
