Relive Nostalgia with the Nokia 2720 Flip Phone; Now with 4G Connectivity for RM359
September 20, 2019 Andrew Cheng

HMD Global just introduced the new Nokia 2720 flip phone in Malaysia. Initially unveiled at IFA 2019 earlier this month, the 2720 Flip feature phone is a part of HMD’s “Nokia Originals” line, which include the redesigned Nokia 3310 and Nokia 8110 “banana phone.”

What makes the 2720 Flip particularly interesting is the operating system it’s running on. Dubbed KaiOS, it allows features phones like the 2720 to have access to popular, vital apps like WhatsApp, Google Maps, YouTube, Facebook, and even Google Assistant.

That’s right, this flip phone has Google Assistant built-in. You can use it to dictate texts, open apps with voice command, or check the weather. Chances are, it won’t be quite as powerful as Google Assistant on Android smartphones, but it doesn’t seem awfully limited either.

Another nice modern upgrade the 2720 Flip gets is 4G connectivity, complete with dual SIM support. If you’re not too reliant on smartphone apps, this phone could very well be your daily driver. It can even serve you well as a secondary device, given that it can also be used as a WiFi hotspot.

Other specifications of the 2720 Flip include a Qualcomm 205 chipset paired with 512MB of RAM, a 2.8-inch 320 x 240 display, a 1.3-inch 240 x 240 screen on the outside of the phone, 4GB of storage – expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB – a 2MP camera, and a 1,500mAh battery that can provide up to 27 days of standby time.

Beyond its hardware, the 2720 Flip is just like the flip phone we all know and love. When you receive a call, you can see who’s the caller with the external display, and flipping the phone open would answer the call. To end the call, just flip the phone shut. Without a doubt, it feels very satisfying to flip the phone open and close.

Aside from the 2720 Flip, HMD also introduced the new Nokia 110 feature phone on our shores. It’s a slight upgrade over the Nokia 105, which adds some useful features like a QVGA camera, built-in radio, and the ability to use it as an MP3 player. You can keep your songs in the microSD card (up to 32GB) of the phone.

The Nokia 110 will be available in Malaysia early October next month for RM120 with three colour options: Ocean Blue, Black, and Pink. The Nokia 2720 Flip, on the other hand, can be purchased right now for RM359, but it is only available in Black for our market.
