Samsung just launched the successors to the Galaxy A50 and A30 in Malaysia, the Samsung Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s. Featuring some hardware upgrades and a slight redesign, these two phones are ideal for those on a budget. This is especially the case with the Galaxy A30s, which retails at only RM899.

Even though it’s the more affordable device of the two, the Galaxy A30s gets some pretty nice upgrades. Most notably, it now comes with a triple camera system instead of its predecessor’s dual camera configuration. It is made up of a 25MP primary shooter, an 8MP wide angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is the same 16MP sensor as the first A30.

Another neat upgrade the Galaxy A30s received is an in-screen fingerprint sensor. That’s right, this RM899 smartphone has an in-screen sensor, and it’s surprisingly good. Of course, this optical sensor isn’t the best in the business, but it’s definitely serviceable.

Other specifications of the Galaxy A30s include a 6.4-inch 720p Super AMOLED Infinity-V display, an Exynos 7904 chipset – the same chip its predecessor had – paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a generous 4,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging.

Three colours of the A30s are available in Malaysia: Prism Crush Green, Prism Crush White, and Prism Crush Black.

And then we have the higher-end device of the two, the Galaxy A50s. Compared to the original Galaxy A50, the new model features a more sophisticated triple camera system. It consists of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera has also been upgraded to a 32MP shooter.

Powering the Galaxy A50s is a Samsung Exynos 9611 chipset instead of its predecessor’s Exynos 9610 SoC, though it’s not clear exactly what improvements the former bring. As far as core count and clock speeds are concerned, both are still octa-core chipsets clocked at up to 2.3GHz.

Rounding out the specifications of the Galaxy A50s are a 6.4-inch 1080p Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, as well as a 4,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging. Much like the Galaxy A30s, you can also get the Galaxy A50s in the same three colour options.

The Samsung Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s will be available in Malaysia from 21 September onwards. They retail at RM1,299 and RM899 respectively, which is RM100 more than the asking prices of their predecessors. A fair price increase, given the hardware upgrades. It’s also worth noting that these two phones now support Samsung Pay too.
