Acer Introduces Predator Triton 300; Thin & Light Entry-Level Gaming Laptop
September 5, 2019 Andrew Cheng

Acer just unveiled a new Triton laptop under its Predator line of gaming laptops. Dubbed Predator Triton 300, the new product serves as the most affordable gaming machine within the Triton series, which is reserved for slim and light gaming laptops.

Tipping the scales at 2.3kg, the Triton 300 isn’t exactly the lightest gaming machine, but it is not particularly heavy either. Its chassis, on the other hand, measures 22.9mm thin. Again, not the slimmest machine around, but definitely thinner than your typical gaming laptop.

Like its bigger brother, the Predator Triton 500, the Triton 300 also comes with a fast 144Hz 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display. Thanks to the high refresh rate, gaming on this laptop should be very enjoyable; the display is capable of showing more frames per second.

Unfortunately, the Triton 300 can’t quite make full use of the 144Hz screen, powered only by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. Now, it’s still quite a respectable GPU, and it can definitely run most games well with some tweaking in the graphics settings, but can it push out 144fps? Only in certain titles like Dota 2 and Diablo III.

On the flip side, the Triton 300 can be configured with Intel’s 9th generation Core i7 processor, which should be from the H series. As far as processors for gaming laptops are concerned, it is fast enough to fulfill most gamers’ needs. To cool down these components, Acer equipped this laptop with its signature 4th generation AeroBlade 3D metal fans.

Rounding out the specifications of the Triton 300 are 16GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM – upgradable to 32GB – support for up to two 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs in Raid 0 configuration, an RGB keyboard with zoned lighting, three USB-A ports, a USB-C connection, an HDMI output, and a RJ45 port.

Beyond the new Triton 300, Acer also refreshed the Triton 500 with a new display option: the 144Hz screen can now be swapped out for a 300Hz panel. Besides that, other hardware of the Triton 500 remain the same.

The Acer Predator Triton 300 is set to arrive in the EMEA regions this October with a starting price of 1,299 euro, which comes up to about RM6,000. The new Predator Triton 500 will also be available in the same regions in November, retailing from 2,699 euro (approximately RM12,495).

Do note that these prices include VAT, so the gaming laptops should be priced lower in other markets outside of Europe. As for the Malaysian market, it remains to be seen if the new Triton 300 and Triton 500 will make it here.
