Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Official; Global Variant of Redmi K20 Pro
August 20, 2019 Andrew Cheng

As promised, Xiaomi officially introduced the Mi 9T Pro today. Basically, this is the global variant of the Redmi K20 Pro; only the branding on the back of the phone has been changed. Regardless, the affordable flagship smartphone is finally here, and it will come to Malaysia very soon.

Not too long ago, Xiaomi Malaysia started posting teasers of the Mi 9T Pro. Chances are, the phone maker is gearing up to introduce the flagship smartphone on our shores. After all, the device has already been registered with SIRIM earlier this month.

In terms of hardware, the Mi 9T Pro is a carbon copy of the Redmi K20 Pro. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 855 chipset paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, so rest assured, you’re getting flagship-tier performance with this smartphone.

Interestingly, Xiaomi global’s website of this phone states that the Mi 9T Pro with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM is only available in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Other markets will supposedly only get the 64GB and 128GB models with 6GB of RAM. We don’t know yet if this applies to Malaysia as well, so we’ll just have to wait for the phone’s local launch to find out.

Just like the standard Mi 9T model, the Mi 9T Pro features an all-screen design without the distraction of a notch or hole-punch cutout. To make this design possible, Xiaomi is using a motorised pop-up camera to hide the selfie shooter, which houses a 20MP f/2.2 sensor.

On the back, the Mi 9T Pro comes with a triple camera system. It’s made up of a 48MP f/1.75 primary shooter, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, as well as a 13MP f/2.4 wide angle sensor. If you recall, this is the exact same camera system found in the regular Mi 9T.

Other specifications of the Mi 9T Pro include a 6.39-inch 2340 x 1080 AMOLED display, a 4,000mAh battery with support for 27W fast charging – though the phone is only bundled with an 18W charger – an in-screen fingerprint sensor, as well as MIUI 10 out of the box.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is currently on sale in certain European countries from 399 euro, which comes up to about RM1,845. Now, do note that VAT is included in the price, so when the Mi 9T Pro is launched here (and in other non-European countries), the price should be lower.

Right now, there’s no concrete release date yet for the Mi 9T Pro in Malaysia. We will, of course, keep a close eye on the local availability of the budget-friendly flagship smartphone.
