Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Launching on 20 August – Malaysian Launch Imminent?
August 14, 2019 Andrew Cheng

When the Xiaomi Mi 9T was unveiled, many were waiting for the eventual launch of the “Pro” variant. Well, it’s been a while, but here it is: the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro will be officially announced on 20 August, and it could be making its way to Malaysia very, very soon.

Some were afraid that the Mi 9T Pro is not in the pipeline at all, but Xiaomi Netherlands Facebook page confirmed the existence of the flagship smartphone, complete with a release date on the 20 August next week.

On top of that, a device with the model number M1903F11G was also registered with SIRIM under Xiaomi Malaysia. A quick Google search shows that this is indeed the Mi 9T Pro‘s model number. Chances are, Xiaomi Malaysia is gearing up to launch the device on our shores.

Compared to the standard Mi 9T, the Mi 9T Pro should share the exact same design. After all, both of these devices are basically global variants of the Redmi K20 series. While they look the same on the outside, under the hood of the 9T Pro is a faster Snapdragon 855 chipset instead of the regular 9T’s Snapdragon 730 SoC.

It’s also worth noting that the Mi 9T Pro should feature support for 27W fast charging. In comparison, the non-Pro model only has an 18W charging rate.

Other specifications of the Mi 9T Pro should be similar to the Mi 9T. These include a 6.39-inch 1080p AMOLED display, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a generous 4,000mAh battery, as well as an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

In the camera department, it has a triple camera system made up of a 48MP f/1.75 primary sensor, a 13MP f/2.4 wide angle shooter, and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, is a 20MP f/2.2 motorised module, so you get a display free of any notch or hole-punch cutout.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro will be launching in Europe on 20 August. Now that the device has been registered with SIRIM, there’s a very good chance it will be made available here in Malaysia, though it remains to be seen exactly when that will happen.

Of course, we will keep a close eye on the local availability of the Mi 9T Pro. Who knows, it may just launch on our shores as early as this month, and it’ll be very interesting to see how much Xiaomi Malaysia will price the flagship smartphone.
