Perodua emo-1 – Working EV Prototype Based on Myvi With up to 400km Range
May 21, 2024 Andrew Cheng

We’re at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, and Perodua got an interesting car to show off. This is the Perodua emo-1, a working EV prototype based on the ever-popular Myvi. With a (targeted) range of up to 400km and a 0-100kmph time of 7 to 9 seconds, it’s quite an attractive EV, though it’s only a prototype.

According to Perodua, the EV prototype is made up of three parts: the power bench, power converter, as well as overall styling and design; all of which are made in Malaysia. According to Perodua, only the power conversion technology development was done with an Australian company.

“The power bench development is done by us (Perodua) partnering up with three local universities – Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Putra Malaysia to fully understand this technology and making it our own,” said the President and CEO of Perodua, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

It’s worth noting that this is only one EV prototype Perodua is working on; the national carmaker hinted that it will be sharing updated concepts in the near future before unveiling the final model sometime in 2025. “The actual first Perodua EV will look different from what is on display here, but be assured that the day is coming,” added Dato’ Sri Zainal.

If you want to see the Perodua emo-1 concept for yourself, you can do so over at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in MAEPS Serdang. The event is set to take place from 22 to 26 May this weekend.
